the virgin north east...

From the 3rd of May I, along with four friends, started on the tour of the north east. We went strainght to gangtok from new jalpaiguri from where it takes around three hours. The journey is breathtaking and it is so all throughout this part. In sikkim we saw the rumtek monastery, nathula (Indo-Chinese border), travelled on a ropeway. The city is quite modern and bustling in gangtok. After sikkim we went to darjeeling which was quite congested and not so clean. It has got a narrow gauge train which takes about nine hours from njp. Then came our chance to explore guwahati and shillong. The kamakhya temple is world famous and it takes hours for the darshan in this temple. Shillong is almost a westernised city of the north east. It is very beautiful and at the same time clean too. On our way back to guwahati it rained heavily and you had to be there to enjoy the ride. This was my first experience of the north east and I am hoping to return soon to travel to more parts. We reached back from guwahatito same old jamalpur on 14th of May.

I watched the movie Mighty Heart today. It is a movie based on the brutal murder of the Jewish American Wall Street Journal Journalist Daniel Pearl. I had heard the movie was shot in Pune. There is a scene in which you can see the ST bus in a background. A lot of portions of Karachi are also shown and seeing I found that Karachi is totally a messy city. How unsecure one must be feeling in Pakistan? Cant imagine that till you are there. One thing that I didnt like about the movie was that they have not projected Pakistan in bad light. Its no secret that Pakistan is a safe haven for international terrorist. More justice would have been done in the movie had it not followed that ideology. Today was also holi. I could not play it as I was suffering from cold. So just spent the day sitting at home watching movie and surfing net.

nobel prize to a scra guy

It was really hearty to hear that Mr. R K Pachauri, head of IPCC got the Nobel Prize for peace for the year 2007. He is from 1958 batch of SCRA. he worked for a while in DLW before moving to USA for his higher studies. He wass also the chief of TERI. He really made the SCRA and railways community proud.
